Apata Inferno: Makinde announces N10m palliative for victims

Governor 'Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Tuesday, sympathised with traders who lost property in last week's petrol tanker fire, which rocked Apata area of Ibadan.

Traders at the popular Apata market, Ibadan, were on Thursday night, thrown into a state of languish, as a tanker conveying Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, lost control on motion and rammed into some shops and houses where it burst into flames and consequently destroyed  goods and property worth millions of naira in the market

Governor Makinde, who led top government officials  to inspect the scene of the fire disaster, said that his administration will immediately release the sum of N10 million to cushion the effects of the inferno.

The governor further said that the palliative would provide immediate succour to the victims.

He said: "This is unfortunate, but as a government of the people, we will do everything within our power to ensure that we provide relief for them."

"I have just asked that an immediate relief of N10m should be given to them at least to have something for this holiday while we look at the list and extent of the losses here," the governor said.
