Pay us our outstanding salary, other or we go on strike --- Bauchi tertiary institutions

By Our Correspondent

Bauchi State tertiary institutions under the umbrella of Joint Action Committee (JAC) has given Bauchi State Government two weeks ultimatum to address their demands or face strike action.

The Chairman of the Joint Action Committee, Dr Abdulkadir Mohammed in statement made available to newsmen, called for immediate payment of outstanding salaries, resumption of promotion and implementation, and annual increment.

He noted that all avenues to settle their grievances with the state government have not yielded result over the years.

"It is on record that we've had a series of correspondents, informal contacts, meetings, press conferences, ultimatum and to some extent, a strike.

“Unfortunately none of these (demands)  has been addressed, not even one out of the several issues at stake,” he said.

Mohammed said the committee also rejected enrollment of its members into the proposed Contributory Pension Scheme, and the deductions for the Health Insurance Contributory Scheme

“We also call for the implementation of the consequential adjustments which (they) did not finalize with organized labor.

“We are also calling on the state government and the general public to understand that our concern is to have our problem solved and we are tired of rhetorics that do not hold water,” he added.

The Chairman also called well-meaning individuals within and outside the state to prevail on the State government to look into their demands with a view to avert breakdown of industrial harmony in the tertiary institutions in the state.

The institutions affected are Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic (ATAP); Aminu Saleh College of Education (ASCOE), College for Legal and Islamic Studies (CLIS), College of Agriculture, Bauchi and the College of Education, Kangere.
