The Kogi State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Hale Gabriel Longpet, has decried the low collection of PVCs since it commenced in September, 2022.
The commission said close to 200,000 PVCs are littered around the 21 council area left uncollected.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner who made the disclosure at a maiden Press briefing, lamented that citizens of the State have not responded positively to INEC's call for people to go and collect their PVCs.
"The collection of PVCs is Central to the election of the kind of leaders that people desire. However, the collection of PV. Collection has been on-going since September 2022; however, citizens of Kogi State have not responded positively to INEC's call for people to go and collect their PVCs.
"The commissioner said the state registered voters has increased from 1,646,350 in 2019 to 1, 939,350; bring new registered voters to 293,015 new voters registers.
"In 2019/2020 154,984 voters registered for PVCs but only 13,689 were collected. In 2022 38,595 new registered were recorded but only 17,413 PVCs were collected, while in early 2022 32,508 new voters registered but only 2,525; representing only 28 percent."
"This is excluding the 66,928 who registered between June and July whose PVCs will be ready this November.'
A break down of the figure shows that out of the 226,087ne newly registered voters, only 33,624 PVCs were collected; leaving out 192,463 PVCs uncollected.
The REC noted that while the PVCs for those that registered between June 28th and July 31st will be ready this November, the Commission he noted is working very hard to improve the process of PVC Collection and to ensure that Nigerians have a pleasant experience when they go collect their cards.
He said the Commission is working with critical stakeholders to successfully undertake and ensure a hitch free and credible 2023 general election.
While pointing out that the Commission has successfully carried out the distribution of some sensitive and non sensitive election materials, he said the training of personnel who would be handling some of the newly introduced technological devices that have been introduced through the electoral act 2022 is ongoing at National, Zonal, State and Local Government levels.
"There will be no going back on the deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for voter accreditation as well as no going back on the electronic transmission of results to the INEC result Viewing Portal in real time on election day.
The Commission he explained will in the next few days display the supplementary voter register in all the Wards and Local Government areas of the State.
