The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun on Monday inaugurated the 2.35km Arepo Journalists Estate road in Obafemi Owode local government area of the state.

Speaking during the inauguration of the road, the governor noted that the project was another commitment to the realization of the project to ease the stress of the people.

He explained that the state government would continue to fulfill its promises to the people, saying that government had prioritised delivery of services.

He added that the road was poised to bring about a rebound in social and economic activities of the area.

While recounting the state of the road, which was abandoned by his his predecessor, Senator Ibukunle Amosun, Governor Abiodun noted that upon his assumption of office in 2019, all that was left on the road was a sign board, indicating that the past administration was constructing the road, while residents lamented the deplorable condition.

Abiodun said "Today is not just another commissioning but another commitment to the fulfilment of our policies. During my campaign, I promised that I will reconstruct this road. When I came in, I met this road as a nightmare. It was abandoned by my predecessor. All that was left was a sign board that they were reconstructing this road".

"This road was made with interlocking stones. We had to use different engineering company.  This road links about over 46 communities in Arepo. This is our own way of of coming to say thank you for voting us in 2019. We have constructed most roads in Ogun central Senatorial District".

Abiodun assured that there would continue to be construction and rehabilitation of inter city roads until every road in the state became motorable.

He noted that the state government was determined to raise the bar of road constructions in the 20 local government areas.

The governor added that his administration would continue to look out and cater for the wellbeing of the people at all times.

Abiodun reiterated that no section of the state would be developed at the expense of others.

Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya disclosed that the construction was in tandem with the state's standard, adding that it has brought economics improvement to the community.

"It has brought relief to residents of the area. It is environment friendly and  has also improve economy and commercial activities in the area."

In his words, the Olu of Arepo, Oba Solomon Oyero said Abiodun's intervention on the road came as a surprise at a time when residents of the area were groaning over the deplorable nature of the road.

"This wonderful project came as a surprise. We didn't expect it. While the construction was going on, we were doubting wether the possibility that the governor would complete it. Before, this road was not motorable until the governor stepped in," he said.

The monarch however pledged the community's support for Governor Dapo Abiodun's re-election bid.

Mrs Olufunke Fadugba, former Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Lagos, commended the governor for fulfilling his promise, saying that the construction was long overdue.

Fadugba noted that the construction of the road had already boosted the economy of the community.

"The road was completed in record time despite the economic challenges in the country . This is our own Christmas gift from the governor,” she said.

The project commissioning was attended by royal fathers, including the Alake of Egba Land, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Akirigbo of Remo, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, former deputy governors - Senator Gbenga Kaka, Salmot Badru, former Speaker, Rt Hon.
