Police in Nasarawa have arrested a 27 years old, Abdulkadir Ibrahim suspected to be a fraudster for impersonating the Commissioner representing Nasarawa at the Federal Character Commission(FCC), Barrister Mamman Toro Alakayi and defrauded unsuspecting members of the public to the tune of Nine Million Naira (=N=9,000,000).
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel said in a statement that the suspect has been parading himself as Barr. Mamman Toro Alakayi's Aid and fraudulently obtained money from unsuspecting members of the public.
According to him, the suspect has been operating under the guise of providing them with employment at Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Correctional service, Independent National Electoral Commission and Federal Inland Revenue Service among others.
The PPRO said a search warrant was executed at his residence where two appointment letters from the National Taskforce (NATFORCE) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were recovered; also, six (6) documentation forms from the Nigerian Immigration Service all bearing different names were subsequently recovered from the suspect as exhibit.
According to DSP Ramhan, the suspect, Ibrahim who hailed from Azara, Awe Local government Area of Nasarawa has since confessed to commiting the crime. adding that upon completion of investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia, he will be charged to a court of competent jurisdiction for prosecution.
Meanwhile, the Federal Character Commission FCC Commissioner, Barrister Mamman Toro Alakayi has distance himself from the crime committed saying that he has no relationship with the suspect.
Alakayi said a friend of his only brought the suspect to him to help provide him with job, explains further that upon interirogation, he discovered that the suspect has qualification for employment.
The FCC Commissioner has advised Nigerians especially those seeking employment at the federal government establishments to be wary of Frauster impersonating chief executives to defraud unsuspecting members of the society.
