The Catholic Archbishop Of Onitsha, Most Rev.Valerian Okeke on Sunday, October 2nd, 2022, surprised the faithful at Odekpe Catholic Community when he defied heavy floods ravaging the area and paid a Pastoral visit to St. Patrick's Parish Odekpe, which was submerged by flood.
The Archbishop who demonstrated sincere love to his flock had to access the church premises on locally made canoe.
Delivering a Homily, titled "the just man lives by his faith," the Archbishop charged the people of God to always remain patient in times of difficulties and challenges, assuring them that the Lord will come to their rescue at a due time with accompanying blessings.
He reminded Christians that the world is not a bed if roses, but with faith, the faithful will be on the winning side every time.
According to him, the secret of successful life is living by faith, advising that we should always pray for our faith to grow stronger and also teach others how to have faith in God.
The prelate on the other hand sympathized with the Catholic community and Ogbaru communities in general who are currently being sacked by flood, praying God to save the people of the submerged areas, and for the flood to begin to recede and dry up.
It was gathered that thousands of residents had fled their homes duy to the floods which submerged their houses.
Some of the parishioners and residents in the area who spoke to the press called on government to come to their rescue.
