...As police allegedly demand N50,000 bail
A 27-year old man, Tobi, other name withheld, has been arrested in Ibadan by Ogun State Police Command over his spouse alleged theft of iPhone in Ijebu Igbo recently.
Investigations revealed that the suspect, Tobi, was arrested at a prayer mountain on new Ibadan-Oyo expressway last Friday and detained at Topon Police Station, Ijebu Igbo.
The wife, according to a reliable source, has run away immediately after her husband was apprehended.
It was gathered that the incident happened in January when Tobi's wife alongside her church members went for a wedding in Ijebu Igbo.
A source said: "They went for a wedding in Ijebu Igbo from their church in Ibadan. When they got there, a cousin to the celebrant, one Segun vacated his room for them after plugging his phone because it was running out of power. He believed that the phone was in safe hand. He doesn't have any premonition of imminent danger. After some hours, the phone got missing and he started begging them who helped him unplugged his phone. When the appeal yielded no result, he later lodged a complaint at the police station.
"What surprises me was that when this woman came back to Ibadan from the ceremony, she told her husband that she saw the phone by the roadside. No Sim card inside and foolishly, the husband collected it and inserted his Sim card not knowing that the owner had reported the case to the police.
"They, police, tracked the phone and got him arrested in Ibadan. His wife has run away since last week Friday when he was picked up. As we speak, he is still at the police station in Topon in Ijebu Igbo." The source added.
A family source, who preferred anonymity said, "We have had mutual agreement with the complainant, Segun. Our agreement was N120, 000. We begged him and he gave us cost of N120, 000, and we have given him N40, 000 three days ago. It remains N80, 000 which we promised N20, 000 every month for four months.
"But to our amusement, the police are demanding for N50, 000 for his bail. Where do we get that N50, 000 after giving N40, 000 to Segun as part of his money." She complained.
When contacted on phone, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the arrest and said the suspect was still in the police custody.
He, however, denied alleged N50, 000 bail condition, adding that arrangement has been concluded to charge him to court.
"The boy is in custody. He is under police detention. But no policeman asked him to bring money. In fact, they have even concluded arrangements to take the case to court.
"All this discussion between the family and complainant, the police said they were not aware of it. Maybe they were discussing outside the station on their own but on the part of police, we have concluded arrangement to charge the case to court. And they are going to do that if he didn't go to court today, Thursday, he will go tomorrow, Friday." The PPRO Oyeyemi confirmed.
