Truck crushes masquerade to death in Lagos

Pandemonium broke out in Mushin area of Lagos, on Wednesday, after a truck- laden with plywood reportedly crushed a masquerade to death.

The incident occured along Isolo Road, by Zone D, at about 3pm.

According to eye witnesses' account, the masquerade was merrying down Mushin Market from Isolo Road when the incident happened. 

Along the line, he was said to be wooing and dancing on the ever busy road to gain attention and raise money from people especially motorists.

It was learnt that in the process, the truck with its driver and two motor boys onboard was travelling outward Mushin as at the time of the incident.

It was gathered that the masquerade who was engrossed with what he was doing requested money from the truck driver unfortunately, the truck lost control while the motor boys signalled to the   masquerade to vacate the road but this was too late as he was crushed to death on the spot. 

A resident of Idera, Mallam Ibrahim Buni said the incident sparked an outrage as a mob descended on the truck driver and his motor boys beating them and inflicting injuries on them with machetes and broken bottles.

"They attempted to set the truck ablaze and lynch the trio but the prompt intervention of men of Zone D Division prevented this as they immediately rescued them and fired carnisters to disperse the mob,' he said.

It was gathered that the intervention by the Police angered some Area Boys who confronted the policemen. 

The action was said to have resulted to panic as people scampered for safety.

Shop owners in the area were said to have hurriedly closed for the day as hoodlums attempted to hijack the situation to loot and rob innocent people but this was prevented by the Police.

The rescued men were said to be taken  to the hospital for medical treatment while the truck was towed out of the scene. 

At press time, it was gathered that one of them was in critical  condition just as investigation has commenced over the matter.
