Onyemachi, 3, needs N19m for liver transport

Remember-years-old Onyemaechi Chinedum! The baby needs N19 million for a liver transplant in Yashoda Hospital, India.

Months after his father made a passionate appeal for urgent surgery, the family is yet to realise a Quarter of the cost of surgery.
Onyemaechi is said to have been battling kidney disease a few days after his birth. His situation became worst after his mother passed on nine days after his birth.

At less than a month old, Onymaechi was taken to the General Hospital Ikorodu and later referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), where he was diagnosed with Obstructive Jaundice.

He, however, underwent a surgical intervention-cyst extension, cholecystectomy and roux-en-hepaticojejunostomy at six months old.

He was also diagnosed with “infantile cholestasis secondary to a choledochal cyst’’ at four months at Babcock. This is followed by an enlarged spleen.

A histologic report further revealed the infant had liver cirrhosis after the surgery.
A medical report from Babcock and the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, showed he has Jaundice.

Following this, doctors at LUTH carried out a post-surgery diagnosis and Onyemaechi was diagnosed with chronic liver disease secondary to the choledochal cyst.

The Paediatric Consultant Gastroenterologist (Dr Adeniyi) at LUTH said “Chinedum is presently on supportive medical therapy,” noting that he needs Nigerians’ financial support to undergo a liver transplant surgery.

According to the father, Mr. Chinedu Onyemaechi, he was born on 24th April 2019. ”My wife had him through a caesarean session and she was discharged five days later, but died on the ninth day.

“My boy has been surviving through various medical interventions. But now critical and the only remedy is the transplant which costs about $39,000 according to the hospital estimation.

“Please help my son. I lost my wife already. I don’t want to lose my son too,” he pleaded, adding that his little boy is suffering at this tender age.

He, called on good spirited Nigerians to come to his son’s aid with financial contributions.
