    Lassa Fever kills 40 in Nigeria

    The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has said that no fewer than 40 Nigerians died from Lassa Fever between January 1 and 30, 2022.

    The health agency in a statement on Saturday said the deaths occurred in 11 states.

    “Cumulatively from week 1 to week 4, 2022, 40 deaths have been reported with a case fatality rate (CFR) of 19.0% which is lower than the CFR for the same period in 2021 (22.2%),” it said

    NCDC also explained that six new deaths were recorded from January 24 to January 30, adding that 229 suspected cases were reported from 16 local government areas across five states last week.


    It further said that as of January 30, 2022, a total of 211 confirmed cases of Lassa fever have been reported, with a case fatality ratio of 19 per cent.

    The states with the disease burden are Bauchi, Edo, Ondo, Oyo, Benue, Taraba, Kaduna, Plateau, Kogi, Cross River, Ebonyi, Enugu, Delta and Katsina.
