4 die, 14 injured on Lagos-Ibadan expressway accident

No fewer than four persons lost their lives, while 14 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in an accident involving a Mazda bus and a truck at Lufwape on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Sunday.

Mr Ahmed Umar, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta.



Umar noted that the incident occurred at 3:40pm and was caused by the driver of the truck .

He added that the accident was as a result of excessive speed and dangerous driving  on the part of the truck driver.

He stated that 20 people were involved in the accident comprising 12 male and eight female, saying that eight male and six female sustained injuries while two male and two female died in the accident.



"The truck driver drove dangerously which made the Mazda bus to lose control due to speed and crashed on the highway.  But unfortunately the truck escaped," he said.

 He stated that the injured victims were taken to Idera hospital Sagamu for treatment while the deceased were deposited at the same hospital Mortuary. 

Umar cautioned motorists on dangerous driving and that life had no duplicate . 

He advised the motoring public to drive defensively,  maintain safe speed and obey traffic rules and regulations.

The sector commander commiserated with the family of the crash victims and enjoined them to contact FRSC Mowe division  for more information about the crash.
