Determined to sustain its status in the World bank ranking on the Ease of Doing Business’, the Ogun State Government has declared that it will intensify efforts to check all forms of corruption, nepotism, favouritism and mismanagement
that usually occurred in business transactions.
The State Chief Judge, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu made this declaration during a stakeholders’ meeting for entrepreneurs in the business sub-sectors, at the Obas' Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, warning that whoever is found culpable of any illegality in that respect would face the full wrath of the law.
Dipeolu assured that the Ogun State Business Environment Council Technical Working Group on enforcing contract domicile in the Ministry of Justice would continue to fight corruption, favouritism, and other acts that could hinder the progress of the business sector in the State.
The Chief Judge who appreciated Judges and Magistrates present at the forum, tasked them to always be fair, just and modest while adjudicating on matters relating to business transactions brought before them, saying this would go a long way in attracting business owners and further solidify the State’s position in the Ease of Doing Business ranking.
Earlier in his remark, the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Akingbolahan Adeniran noted that regardless of the insurgence of COVID-19 pandemic, the State’s ranking on Ease of Doing Business has improved considerably and that government is not resting on its oars in this respect.
“Ogun State is currently the second in ease of doing business and enforcement of contract after Kaduna State.
We’ll do everything within our means to be the number one in enforcement of contract and ease of doing business, so as to boost the State's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR)”, Adeniran maintained.
Also speaking, the Director of Commercial Services in the Ministry, Mrs. Adejumoke Adewole hinted that much had been learnt about the roles of doing business under the World Bank, revealing that small claims court had been established to settle business disputes of amount not more than N1m.
Mrs. Adewole stated that the State Judiciary had also introduced steady and management system to ensure cases were not delayed, as well as to wipe out congestion in the court process.
On his part, the Secretary, Ogun State Business Environment Council, Mr. Emmanuel Adeleke pointed out that the Council had improved tremendously, especially in business environment, saying the World Bank assessment is based on a time frame, and that it is imperative for operators in the business sectors to register and earn their title documents.
